#1962 MERCURY COMET FREE#
Life started in a central Edmonton boarding house where the rent was free in exchange for mother for cleaning the entire house. He eventually made it to Edmonton, married mom and three years later I came along. He feared going back to his home not sure if there would be repercussions for fighting against the Soviets. Dad through whatever channels gained documents to come to Canada after 1946, although Brazil was an option, but he had a job in Ontario as a woodcutter and so the decision was easy. But there is one of him on a horse near the American compound. Dad spoke very highly of the American GI’s and we used to have a picture of him hamming it up with them. Thankfully he made it to the American lines where I believe he was jailed for a time and then released once the Americans learned he was from eastern Poland. Sometime during his recovery word came that the Soviet Army was moving west so my father fled not wanting to encounter those forces and perhaps risk execution or imprisonment in the eastern Soviet Union. Moments after the attack he stumbled onto a road and was picked up by a couple of German officers who took him to a medical facility for treatment. Perhaps that’s also how he lost part of his ring finger (he never clearly explained how that happened). His service nearly ended in a mortar blast in Germany where he was wounded with a broken jaw and shrapnel to the to the arm. He had dreams of being a carpenter which ended when the German army rolled into the hamlet in 1943 and ordered all young men over the age of 16 to join their ranks. My father Joe grew up in a border area between Poland and the Ukraine. While this goes for a very classic style, there are some well-done driver upgrades. It not only feels fresh, but there are also cool details, like the Comet logo embossed in the door panels. There has been a solid investment here to intertwine the high contrast colors on the seats, side panels, headliner, and carpeting. So it really gives the impression of an everyday classic, and sleepers like this are always cool.
And the full-length trim shows off the straightness of the sheetmetal. The front end has a cool classic bright chrome presentation, and so that goes well with the upgraded smoothie wheels. The trim tag tells us black is the factory-correct color, and it has an older respray that gives off the aged-in impression.
#1962 MERCURY COMET UPGRADE#
As you'll see from the motor and suspension, this is the kind of car that could easily get away with an upgrade to a wild paint theme, but we really like how it already is presented. The front overhang, long/thin tailfins, and afterburner style tail lights make for the right place to start for a custom build. The Comet was built for this speedy look. So you're looking at something that's powerful, cool, and distinctive. It has a very classic exterior, subtly upgraded interior, improved suspension, and terrific V8 power.
